Tel Aviv, Israel-based Rad Network Devices Ltd has launched the VAN, claimed as the smallest remote Ethernet bridge of its kind. Weighing 7 lbs, the device is said to provide all the functionality of a rack-mounted or tabletop bridge, with support for wide area network data rates ranging from 4.8Kbps to 384Kbps, and a second wide area network link for dial back-up. It can also be monitored and configured via any Simple Network Management Protocol-compliant management application and requires no power supply when an optional male AUI interface is used. The female AUI and 10Base-T interfaces plug into a standard Ethernet port, and require an external power supply. The new product is shipping now, and is priced at $950.
