The CTO of DevOps services at managed cloud firm Rackspace is leaving the company for the media conglomerate Pearson.

Chris Jackson joined the vendor more than eight years ago as a data centre technician, moving up through the ranks to manage the firm’s global strategy on development operations.

He will join Pearson as director of platform delivery and operations, focusing on platform-as-a-service (Paas), DevOps, and simplifying the use of technology for employees.

"The team at Pearson is building a reputation as forward thinking innovators and I’m going to test myself with a leadership role that will help me learn what kind of career is available to me for the rest of my time working," he said, writing on his blog.

"It’s scary (which makes it more exciting) but I am also confident that I’ve spent the last 8.5 years working with some of the most talented and inspiring leaders, and if I can apply just a fraction of what they’ve done for me, I’ll do ok."

He added that Rackspace had been "a phenomenal employer" which had continually given him opportunities to develop his career.
