RACAL ELECTRONICS EYING A DATA COMMUNICATIONS ACQUISIATION?

By CBR Staff Writer

Suggestions in the Sunday Telegraph that Racal Electronics Plc is eyeing a data communications acquisition in the US puts the spotlight on two of Racal-Milgo Inc’s Florida neighbours, Paradyne Corp in Largo and Telematics International Inc in Fort Lauderdale: with an investment group sitting on more than 10%, Paradyne is now clearly in play, but it doesn’t make much sense to wait to get involved until the vultures are on board; Telematics is another matter however, and Racal already has two connections with the lusty and attractive packet switch manufacturer – it is giving Telematics some of the business for the Government Data Network, and Hambros Bank, which was one of the three original partners in Vodafone, was a substantial first round venture capital investor in Telematics, and is still on board the company, which had been saying it wanted a London quote to complement NASDAQ; a long shot is Micom Systems Inc in Simi Valley, California, which says it is for sale at the right price.
