Oh, for the love of Nature… Milpitas, California-based Qume Corp’s Supplies Division has announced a new programme to retrieve and recycle laser printer toner cartridges for printers using the Canon SX laser printer engine: pretentiously called the Environmentally Correct Cartridge, the programme will include and end-user cartridge retrieval programme to facilitate recycling and a complete remanufacturing process that produces cartridges said to offer one-third higher print yields and crisper character resolution; the cartridge drum is put through a coating process called Direct Image Polymer and all components used in remanufactured SX cartridges will be recycled; once cartridges have reached end-of-life, parts will be shredded or melted and used for other purposes; Qume says that it has eliminated non-biodegradable foil wrapper and packaging for its toner cartridges will be completely biodegradable; Qume will market the $90 SX cartridges via distributors, Azerty Corp, based in Buffalo, New York.
