Quest vRanger 6.0 delivers advanced physical server backup, restore capabilities

The new release will enable customers to back up and restore physical Windows servers, delivering single-source protection for both virtual and physical environments

By CBR Staff Writer

IT management and systems management applications provider Quest Software has released vRanger 6.0, the new version of its virtual data protection application.

Quest Software’s vRanger is designed to deliver enhanced backup, replication and recovery for VMware, the company said.

Release 6.0 will enable customers to back up and restore physical Windows servers, delivering single-source protection for both virtual and physical environments.

vRanger 6.0 is VMware Ready certified for vSphere 5 and delivers OS support for Windows Server 2003 and 2008. It also enables physical server backup by deploying distributed agents that send data directly from source to repository and supports Windows Server 2012 upon its release to market.

In addition, the new version provides application consistent snapshot backups for different Microsoft applications, including Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, and Active Directory via Microsoft’s VSS.

The new release simplifies backup and recovery of physical servers as well and includes online backups that eliminate the impact of the backup window on production applications.

It also includes application-consistent backup copies of transactional servers, Quest’s patented Active Block Mapping technology, which speeds backups and reduces storage space by reading and writing only active blocks of data and full, incremental and differential backups to reduce the amount of data backed up.

It also features Native cataloging that enables "one click" recovery by allowing users to find and recover files with keyword and wildcard searches.
