Quel canard! John Louth, late of Tandem Computers, now in charge or international operations at Sybase Inc, and just having signed up a caretaker French distributor for the rest of the year, recalls with pride his last company launch in France: I decided to give my presentation in French, and halfway through felt I had won over the audience because they were all smiling – it was only when the French staff pulled me aside afterwards that I realised that mistaking the French for ‘channel’ I had just launched two ducks travelling at 13 megabytes a second, to the great amusement of the French press.
