Iomega Corp, Roy, Utah has extended its range of hard disk back-up storage devices with the launch of the Tape700, a QIC-3010 standard 1 high standard tape streamer which, when bundled with its back-up software, will store up to 680Mb of compressed data. The Quarter Inch Cartridge Committee, of which Iomega is a member, defines the industry standards for quarter inch cartridge tape drives used for back-up, secondary storage and software duplication. The Tape700 is offered in two configurations: the Tape700 Insider is designed to fit the 3.5 and 5.25 slots inside a computer by connecting to the motherboard. The Tape700 Parallel Port is an external version that connects to the parallel port by passing through the printer connection. The Tape700 is a high-end version of the Tape250 launched by Iomega in 1992 and achieves data transfer rates of up to 9.5Mb per minute through using megneto-resistive thin film heads. Tape700 will ship with Iomega Backup software for MS-DOS and Windows at UKP325 for the internal unit and UKP420 for the external parallel port version.
