Quark Inc of Denver has been slapped with a $14m claim for damages by the JVC Laboratory of America arm of Victor Co of Japan Ltd, which accuses the company of undermining development and marketing of Xposure, a jointly-developed image manipulation program intended to compete with Adobe Systems Inc’s PhotoShop. In June, Quark delayed the release of QuarkImmedia, the company’s key product for interactive publishing on the Internet. The company expects the two programs eventually to account for half of its business. The complaint alleges that in the past year Quark failed to provide agreed-upon technical input and that it misrepresented its intentions for Xposure. JVC has terminated its agreement with Quark and wants $14m damages. Quark had no immediate comment.
