Quark Inc is expanding into India, and this week announced a new software development center in Chandigarh and a marketing office in New Dehli. Quark says it wants to utilize Indian software expertise, and is assembling a team of software engineers at Chandigarh, who will focus on client server and desktop application development for products specific to the India market, and also for global distribution. Quark is currently pushing its software towards internet-centric electronic commerce and direct marketing. Quark will sell its software via the New Dehli office, and in two months plans to begin setting up distribution channels for graphics and publishing products. Although Quark products are not currently distributed in India, Quark says that its research shows the software is already well- known in the Indian electronic pre-press market, presumably through piracy. We want to begin offering our products at competitive prices and with all the benefits of purchasing software from the source, said Raveesh Gupta, group marketing manager for Quark’s India operations.
