Quark Inc, Denver, Colorado, is on a hiring spree and advertised in the Wall Street Journal yesterday for a chief financial officer with investor relations skills and a bunch of other vice presidents, directors and managers. Why a private company like Quark needs a CFO who has worked at a publicly traded multinational corporation unless it’s going public is, of course, the mystery. Quark trotted out the company line that it’s looking for people with wide-ranging experience and the ad doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going public. Quark said most of the vacancies are for newly created positions. It wants to hire a manager of strategic Internet planning, but whether that means it will be offering Web-enabled products remains to be seen. Quark will make two new development announcements in the coming weeks and its multimedia QuarkImmedia product, due to ship mid- summer, comes out of beta next week.
