QUANTUM FORMS OEM UNIT FOR 80Mb 3.5″ DRIVE

By CBR Staff Writer

Quantum Corp, which is already in the retail market for 3.5 Winchesters with the plug-in disks-on-boards from its Plus Development Corp, is moving into the OEM market for 3.5 drives following an agreement with Matsushita Kotobuki. Up to now, Quantum has always made its own drives for the OEM market, but this time around, the Milpitas, California company has commissioned the Matsushita affiliate to manufacture the drives in Japan for Quantum. First up, and expected towards the end of the year, will be an SCSI drive with a challenging 80Mb capacity. Volume production of the drive is planned for 1988.
