Amidst the gloom in the small disk drive business, Quantum Corp, Milpitas, California strikes a bright note, saying that increasing orders from Apple Computer Inc helped to fuel a growth in profit to over $5.2m, 60 cents a share, on sales of about $75m for its fiscal fourth quarter to March 31 – better than it expected even a month ago and a sharp improvement on the $8.4m loss on sales of $42.2m a year ago: the forecast implies fiscal 1989 profit in the region of $11.2m, 1.22 a share, on sales of $205m, against a loss of $3.2m on sales of $188.5m.
