QUANTUM CORP ENLISTS MATSUSHITA MANUFACTURE

By CBR Staff Writer

While Japanese manufacturers are increasingly moving manufacture to the US, Milpitas, California-based Quantum Corp has gone to Japan for part of its requirement for 3.5 Winchesters. It has signed a longterm manufacturing agreement with Matsushita Kotobuki Electronic Industries Ltd for the Japanese firm to manufacture the initial products in this Quantum’s new high performance generation of 3.5 drives, augmenting the company’s own manufacturing in Milpitas. Quantum has had a relationship with Matsushita Kutobuki since 1984 when its Plus Development subsidiary chose the firm to produce its Hardcard disk expansion boards for end users, since when it has made more than 250,000. The new OEM line builds on the technology of the Hardcards and Q200 intelligent disk drives.
