Milpitas, California-based Quantum Corp hasa new family of inch-high, 3.5 form factor drives. Aimed at entry-level, low-cost desktop systems, the new ProDrive ELS for MS-DOS and Macintosh systems come in 170Mb, 127Mb, 85Mb and 42Mb models; seek times are as fast as 17mS. As with Quantum’s earlier ProDrive products, the new ELS drives provide both DisCache and WriteCache firmware for improved data throughput during read and write operations. They are also offered with an embedded IDE-AT or SCSI controller. Evaluation unit pricing to direct OEM customers for IDE-AT drives is $170, $230, $280 and $320 for the ProDrive ELS 42Mb, 85Mb, 127Mb and 170Mb respectively.
