Taiwan’s second largest notebook PC maker, Quanta Computer Inc, says its delivered more than 190,000 units, worth NT$7bn ($219m), last month, despite losing production time due to power cuts after the September 21 earthquake. Both figures are close to those reported for August, and are only slightly less than the company’s pre-earthquake estimates of 200,000 machines to be shipped in September.
Quanta, which recently lost the number one position in Taiwan’s notebook computer industry to Asustek Computer Inc, made about a million notebook PCs in its three Taiwan factories in the first half of the year and has orders for another 1.2 million in the second half.
Although officials with other notebook PC companies have warned of a possible shortage of upstream components due to the earthquake, a Quanta official said that the company’s component supplies are stable and it remains optimistic about the delivery outlook for the rest of this year.
