Qualcomm now expects to ship 34 to 35 million of its mobile station modem phones chips in the quarter, against its original estimate of 33 to 35 million as demand continues to soar for 3G phones.
For the full year, the San Diego, California-based company expects revenue to show a 28% to 30% rise, up from its earlier estimate of 26% to 29%. Earnings per share will be in the $1.93 to $1.98 range, compared with prior guidance of $1.86 to $1.91.
Qualcomm estimates that the CDMA phone market in calendar 2005 will be in the range of 195-215 million units, a 31% increase over its figure for 2004. Using a mid-point of 205 million units, its expects approximately 160 million CDMA2000 and 45 million WCDMA shipments in the year.
