Qualcomm MEMS Technologies and LG Electronics have signed an agreement to begin the development of mirasol-enabled handsets.
Under the agreement, Qualcomm MEMS Technologies and LG Electronics each commit resources to integrate mirasol displays into one or more LG handsets intended for commercial release.
Qualcomm claims that the nature-inspired mirasol display consumes less power than other display technologies, extending handset battery life and enabling consumers to enjoy better mobility. Based on reflective technology, Qualcomm’s mirasol displays harness ambient light to create color across a broad range of lighting conditions, including direct sunlight.
Jim Cathey, vice president of business development at Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, said: There is a demand in the marketplace for mobile products that deliver compelling user experiences. We look forward to working with LG Electronics to begin incorporating color mirasol displays in LG handsets. This collaboration signifies the commitment we have toward bringing products to market with LG.
