QNAP Systems has expanded its Business Series Turbo NAS lineup with two new 1U rack-mounted, 4-drive models, the TS-459U-SP and TS-459U-RP, which offer up to 8TB of storage and have been certified as compatible with VMware’s vSphere4 (ESX 4.0) virtualisation platform.

The company said that the TS-459U-RP and TS-459U-SP incorporate Intel Atom D-510 1.66Ghz dual-core processor and feature 1GB of DDRII RAM. The new models are differentiated with the TS-459U-RP containing redundant power supplies. The TS-459U-SP contains a single power supply, and can be upgraded to the -RP configuration with installation of a second power supply module.

According to QNAP, both the models support RAID 0/1/5/5+ hot spare/6, and JBOD, with online RAID capacity expansion, online RAID level migration and RAID recovery. They also feature 256-bit AES volume level encryption, 5 USB ports (1 front panel and 4 real panel) and 2 e-SATA ports for storage expansion and printer sharing. In addition, the models also support features including DOM architecture with fail-safe dual OS, scheduled power on/off, Wake on LAN, and HDD S.M.A.R.T.

The new models come pre-installed with version 3.2 of the QNAP NAS management software which supports features such as iSCSI service; SPC-3 Persistent Reservation for clustering in VMware and Hyper-V clusters in Windows Server 2008; Apple Time Machine backups; MPIO and MC/S. They incorporate new DFS support, import of user-list, internet protocol, Ipv6, the company said.
