QMS Inc, Mobile, Alabama, now has definitive agreement for its previously-announced proposal to acquire privately-held Imagen Corp, Santa Clara (CI No 888). QMS agrees to pay 1.85m new shares for Imagen, valuing the company at about $17m (CI No 883). Imagen specialises in image processing technology and print systems for the high ends of the technical documentation, computer-aided publishing and scientific and engineering markets, and recently launched PC Publisher Kit, a low cost image processing subsystem; QMS, in laser and matrix printers, looks for merger of the two engineering staffs, which have diverse areas of expertise, to form a superior engineering group with added Unix experience, and to gain from Imagen’s expertise in development and implementation of page description languages. Imagen lost $2.7m on $25.8m in its last fiscal.
