PSION SHARES UP AFTER GATES LABELS COMPANY “A THREAT”

By CBR Staff Writer

Shares in Psion Plc, the UK handheld computer maker, rose 6.3% to 363.5 pence after the company was named as a threat by Microsoft Corp chairman Bill Gates. Buyers rushed in after reading an extensively leaked memo called The Era Ahead in which Gates said the recent Symbian alliance between Psion and Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola for a new generation of wireless information devices was strong competition for the Windows CE operating system. Psion would not make an official comment but one executive said: It’s flattering and the market has taken it very positively.
