The Japanese subsidiary of the US-based PSINet Group has opened Japan’s biggest data center, Tokyo Global Hosting Center, which joins similar facilities in the US the UK and Canada. One of the services offered by the operation is a dedicated server hosting service which allows clients to lease servers and operating systems while outsourcing the operations to PSINet. Initially the company will offer only Windows NT machines from Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd, but Unix servers from Sun Microsystems Inc will be available later. Starting in January the company will offer corporate users an e-commerce service with functions including online payment by credit card and cash payment via the Seven-Eleven convenience store chain.
