US facilities-based datacoms carrier PSINet Inc has begun offering its IP backbone for European ISPs and carriers. The company said the new service, called PSINet transit, offers high-speed, carrier-class global internet connectivity. The Herndon, Virginia-based company oversees a network with a presence at every major public peering exchange around the world and is directly connected to almost all Tier One ISPs.

Transit offers full BGP-4 routing and is available from speeds of 2Mbps to 34Mbps and is, of course, packaged with a service level agreement. In a first stage, the service is being offered in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, and will be rolled out to other countries within the next few months.
