Internet service provider PSINet Inc has agreed to acquire the Hungarian number two ISP for an undisclosed amount, giving it 27% of Hungary’s net connectivity market. Elender Informatikai es Szamitastechnikai Rt becomes PSINet’s 18th ISP acquisition this year. The Herndon, Virginia-based company says that Hungary is one of the fastest-growing net-using countries in Eastern and Central Europe, with half a million people online. Three-quarters of Elender’s revenues come from business customers, which account for 55% of the overall customer base. The firm’s most noteworthy contract is a deal to provide a virtual private network for schools in Hungary, with access for 200,000 students and teachers.
