Cyrix Corp chief executive Gerald Rogers reiterated that the company’s M1 chip, competitor for Intel Corp’s Pentium, is expected to be ready for demonstration next month and that he has confidence in the M1’s ability to compete with the Pentium; he is also closely watching Intel’s pricing actions with regard to 80486 chips – Intel is a tough competitor, Rogers said – We have to work hard, but an advantage to not having one customer responsible for a large majority of business is that Cyrix can concentrate on areas where margins are higher; he reckons that the company’s manufacturing partnership with IBM Corp will help the Richardson, Texas company increase capacity and he expects manufacturing capacity to increase significantly in the first half of 1995; he assured the conference that the recent resignation of former chief financial officer Ronald Edgerton was not a sudden decision – Cyrix’s business is pretty intense and it doesn’t let up, Rogers said, and he thought Edgerton’s resignation was inspired by his desire to spend more time with his family rather than spending it all wiith Cyrix.
