Proteon Inc has been working away with Texas Instruments Inc and says it has come up with a set of high-performance Token Ring drivers that the company claims can boost performance by 250% over its own current offerings. The company says that the co-operative work with Texas Instruments has enabled it to indulge in some low-level re-coding, and claims that the new drivers reduce CPU use while making available up to 95% of a 16Mbps Token Ring bandwidth for user traffic. Unfortunately, no details are available as to the outcome of any independent bench tests, nor is there any word on the kind of data that the company was transporting.
