PROTEON DELIVERS INTERNET KIT

By CBR Staff Writer

Westborough, Massachusetts-based Proteon Inc last week introduced the GT Access Manager Point-of-Presence system, which is specifically designed as a total Point-of-Presence offering for Internet service providers. The company is claiming that its entry-level price point of $9,000 is the lowest price in the industry for its class. The GT Access Manager, which is based on Proteon’s OpenRoute internetworking technology, includes features such as dual power supplies, high density wide area network connections and a highly optimized RISC-based routing engine. The product is available immediately and comes in two basic configurations consisting of either a four-port Ethernet 10Base-T or FDDI network interface and eight high-speed serial connections. The GT Access Manager is capable of expanding both local and wide area network communications, which can be tailored to suit high-density network configurations. The product can be expanded to 16 high-speed serial interfaces – an enhancement that costs $3,000. This summer, the product will be available in models that can also be configured to support up to 92/120 Integrated Systems Digital Network Basic Rate Interface connections, via ISDN Primary Rate modules, as well as 100Base-T Fast Ethernet local networks. Included with the GT Access Manager is Proteon’s ISP software suite for Internet and IP-based networks, which includes features like Open Shortest Path First, DVMRP, Frame Relay RFC 1490, BGP-4, Point-to-Point Protocol, along with bandwidth optimization features such as data compression and bandwidth reservation. The GT Access Manager is also available with 10 packs of Proteon’s GlobeTrotter 60 Internet access router. Single unit pricing starts at $800.
