Five of the 10 consortia bidding for Hong Kong’s fourth cellular licence have been shortlisted, and asked to provide more details of their proposals to the Postmaster General’s office: the finalists are New World Telephone, a partnership between New World Development Ltd, a local technology group called Infa Telecom Ltd and Ameritech Corp; Smartcom, led by Sun Hung Kai Properties and including McCaw Cellular Communications Inc, the local paging company, ABC Communications Ltd and Town Kahn Ltd; Wharf-Nynex Telecom, a partnership between Wharf Holdings Ltd and Nynex Corp; a partnership between Chevalier International Ltd and the Australian & Overseas Telecommunications Corp; and Iconese, which is a consortium led by CITIC-Pacific Ltd.
