Sord founder Shiina’s new Proside company which builds the VS2 machine that is compatible with the IBM AT and NEC 9800 series, is to expand its retail outlets in towns with more than 300,000 people around Japan, operating on a franchise basis: in a new departure for Japan, it will sell its machines in kit form, and offer cheap disk drives and tape cartridges, 200 programs, including the BIOS and the operating systems; Proside franchises will carry the VS2, IBM compatibles (probably from Taiwan) and Epson’s line of NEC 9800-compatible machines; the franchisee’s staff will also get a two-week training course.
