Prophix sets up Australian operation

Canadian mid-market business performance management specialist Prophix Software Inc has set up shop in Australia to strengthen its presence in the region.

By CBR Staff Writer

The creation of Prophix Australia, which is based in Sydney with associated offices in Melbourne, is part of an ongoing strategy by the Toronto-based firm to expand its operations worldwide.

The company already has operations in North America, the UK and Singapore and uses distributors across Continental Europe, Russia and South America.

Prophix sees a large mid-market or BPM software in Australia, which is widely regarded to be at the forefront of business intelligence technologies in Asia Pacific. The primary target for Prophix are those companies that have outgrown spreadsheets and are now looking for a low-cost, yet fully featured, financial planning and budgeting solution.

The company claims that Australian subsidiaries of global concerns such as Rentokil Inc and L’Occitane SA already use its financial software.

Prophix offers two main products: a LAN-based budegting application called Prophix Budgets; and a client-server based suite called Prophix Enterprise that integrates budgeting, planning, consolidation and management reporting through a spreadsheet-style interface.

Prophix is admitedly a small fish in a big sea of BPM sharks such as Hyperion Solutions Corp and Cognos Inc, but the company claims to have pioneered the concept of OLAP mini-cubes, which restricts calculations to part of a dimension, and delta analysis, which allows users to compare data being entered with another version and enter data in terms of both absolute and percentage changes.
