Twitter plans to test a new ad feature called Promoted Video to let brands promote their products and services directly through twitter videos.

The videos will look like a genuine tweets, which will appear in the users content feed, and it will be embedded into the tweets via Twitter card technology.

The new method of Promoted Video might be a part of the company’s Twitter Amplified programme, which allows brands to promote their video along with short embedded commercials from advertiser.

With Promoted Videos, Twitter is trying to woo the advertisers who do not have tie-ups with big media brands.

With the promoted video tie up with advertisers, Twitter will not have to split the ad revenue with any other brand, as the advertiser will be promoting the video directly onto Twitter.

The micro blogging site is trying to compete with Facebook, which offers a similar ad service, and make its platform more versatile, emerging from a platform for images and texts.

Twitter blog post stated: "The overall goal is to bring more video into our users’ timelines to create a richer and more engaging Twitter."
