Progress Software Corp has launched the second version of its web-based application development tool less than a year after its first release (CI No 3,012). Progress believes being able to web- enable large business applications is a major step towards the widespread adoption of electronic commerce. WebSpeed 2.0 is said to speed up development time owing to its Web-Centric environment rather than a Windows-based environment, which Progress says takes away the problem of swapping between interfaces when testing and deploying. The product, according to the Bedford, Massachusetts headquartered company offers scalability and performance to support widely fluctuating users. WebSpeed 2.0 has been specifically designed to develop enterprise-level applications and is compatible with most electronic commerce programs, web browsers, web servers and databases.
