Progress said it would combine iWay’s adapters with the Sonic service bus for its own OpenEdge 10 development Platform. The combination aims to simplify enterprise integration, Progress said. The company said the partnership will enhance OpenEdge enterprise integration with heterogeneous application platforms, databases, and legacy systems.

Meanwhile, iWay Software said the deal will benefit Progress OpenEdge 10 customers because application partners and developers will have additional integration capabilities from iWay Software’s library of plug-and-play adapters. The adapters provide fast, efficient, and reusable access to critical information assets, according to iWay. The Universal Adapter Framework can also use a single skill set for a wide range of connectivity requirements.

iWay Software is a wholly owned subsidiary of business intelligence player Information Builders. This latest partnership with Progress follows hot on the heels of a reseller agreement the company signed with Sun Microsystems on July 5, which will see iWay’s adapters delivered to Sun Java Enterprise System customers. Under the terms of that contract, iWay Software will deliver optimized adapters for connectivity to mission-critical back-end systems using Java System Application Server 7 or 8.

iWay Software OEMs and resellers now include BEA, Microsoft, Sun, Progress Software, and SAP. iWay’s parent company, Information Builders, is a privately held, $300m annual revenue company that specializes in business intelligence and web-based reporting. The company has been around for 29 years now and claims 12,000 customers, including most of the Fortune 100 and US federal government agencies.
