Prodigy Services Corp appears to be talking up the corporate side of its business with the introduction yesterday of its ProHost web hosting service. The White Plains New York Internet Service Provider (ISP) will market the service direct and through a network of value-added resellers (VARs), the first of which is Digital Instincts. Parent company Prodigy Inc’s Prodigy Internet is the fourth largest consumer service in an increasingly cut-throat business of ever-narrowing margins. CompuServe Corp and Netcom Online Communications Inc are two other ISPs who are emphasizing the corporate side of their business more these days. In May Prodigy secured a massive $179m private placement over 13 months, but mostly from its majority shareholders Carso Global Telecom SA de CV and Prodigy chairman Greg Carr (CI No 3,154).
