PRIME ADDS 2455 AS TOP MODEL TO ITS LOW-END MINI LINE

Prime Computer Inc has added a top-end 2455 model to its line of entry level desk-side computers, where it joins the 2350 and 2450. The 2455 adds a 64Kb cache and is rated at up to 1.6 MIPS – against 1.3 MIPS for the 2450 and 0.8 for the 2350 – supports 255 simultaneous processes for up to 40 direct users, and takes up to 755Mb of backing store. Maximum main memory is 12Mb against 8Mb on the 2450, and it takes up to three 258Mb disks in the cabinet against two for the 2350 and 2450. It also runs the Prime Information implementation of Pick 35% faster than the 2450. Measuring 11.3 by 29 by 30.3, the 2455 system does not require additional cabinets to be fully configured and is designed to run on standard office power. An external half-inch streaming tape option is available. With 4Mb memory, 258Mb Winchester, 60Mb cartridge tape, communications controller with four async lines, console and Primos operating system it is $62,810, UKP49,690 in the UK. Prime also added the Model 4592 GCR Magnetic Tape Subystem, which runs at 75 inches per second with three densities, 800, 1,600 and 6,250 bits per inch, and is designed for the 9755, 9955II, 6350 and 6550 minis; no price was given for the drive.
