The personal computer price war is beginning to separate out winners and losers among the big second-line players, and Everex Systems Inc has definitely proved one of the latter group of companies that need to cut costs and can’t make money in the present unforgiving climate, while Dell Computer Corp has steamed ahead of the pack as a winner: now looking as if it is slipping into the losers camp is Irvine, California-based Advanced Logic Research Inc, which said it expects to report a loss for its fiscal fourth quarter ending September 30 and said turnover could be as much as 10% below third quarter revenues of $52.7m; the company sees turnover for the 1992 fiscal year about 10% below the $228m reported in 1991, but still expects to report a profit for the year – it has a cushion of $3m from the first nine months; the company says that it does not expect any material adverse impact on its liquidity from its weak operating performance for the quarter, and declares that it is focussing on competitive new products and expense controls.
