PRICE CUTS ON DEC’S MICROVAX II-BASED WORKSTATIONS – MORE SUBSTANTIAL THAN EXPECTED

In a remarkable switch, the swingeing end-of-line price cuts on DEC’s MicroVAX II-based workstations took precedence over IBM’s networking announcements in the early editions of yesterday’s Wall Street Journal: the price cuts, although signalled here, were much more substantial than anyone had forecast, witness some of the comments from a couple of analysts – I was flabbergasted – this is the announcement of the year said John Logan, Yankee Group; It’s caught everyone off guard – you don’t expect Digital to be as competitive as this, Vicki Brown of International Data Corp.
