PRIAM MOVES INTO OLD QUME PLANT IN TAIWAN

Priam Corp, which took a charge for restructuring of $31m with its second quarter figures (CI No 615), has given details of its plans. It is buying the old Taiwanese plant of ITT’s Qume Corp now part of Alcatel NV – as its first offshore facility, and transferring the more mature of its disk drives there. First to go will be V100 line of 50Mb, 70Mb and 85Mb 5.25 drives, and the San Jose, California company plans to start volume production at the Taiwan plant in the autumn.
