Preview Systems Inc has a new beta testing tool called BetaQuest, which connects users to software publishers during the beta- testing process. Implementing one-to-one and one-to-many internet-based communications within the application itself through technology it calls eBoomerang, BetaQuest enables publishers to get real-time information on actual use of their product, and a pipeline for tester usage data and feedback. The product handles data collection and trend analysis, bug reporting and surveys and messaging. Preview promises more eBoomerang-based applications in the future, covering targeted updates and upgrades, market research, technical support, and trial applications to sales conversion. It’s out now, with fees based on the size and duration of the beta program. Cupertino, California-based Preview Systems was originally known as Dynasoft, but changed its name in 1996. Last year the company merged with a competitive electronic software distribution company, Portland Software Inc, in a $20m merger of equals (CI No 3,398). Its products include the ZipLock electronic commerce server software (from Portland) and the Vbox virtual box client-based electronic packaging system from Preview.
