PreEmptive Solutions has released its Runtime Intelligence Endpoint Starter Kit, which gives developers the ability to monitor and measure application adoption.

The open source project utilises Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 community edition of Dotfuscator to inject the application instrumentation mechanism post-compile into a sample application. Once the application is ‘runtime enabled,’ it streams usage data to an analytics endpoint built upon Microsoft SQL Server and published to a SharePoint Web part, the company said.

PreEmptive Solutions said that the repository project compliments an earlier CodePlex project that takes advantage of the Visual Studio 2010 framework to surface runtime intelligence data inside the Code Editor. The Runtime Intelligence monitors beta usage, end-user behaviour, application stability, and new feature adoption to improve software quality and validate development investments.

In addition, the customer experience improvement program automation connects usage, end-user productivity, client satisfaction, and support efficiency through monitoring and measurement of production deployments, the company claims.

Cyrill Glockner, director of business development at Microsoft, said: “At Microsoft, we see great value when Visual Studio Industry Program partners such as PreEmptive Solutions utilise the developer platform to bring scalable solutions to customers.

“In the Runtime Intelligence Endpoint Starter Kit, Visual Studio 2010 allows developers to easily measure and manage application adoption across several deployment models including the .Net framework.”
