Utah-based PowerQuest Corp has delayed the release of its new EZ-Boot boot manager by at least four months, saying only that it ‘still has some issues to resolve’. The company would not comment on what those issues were, but suggested they were marketing, rather than technical issues. The product, designed to enable users to partition their hard drive without destroying data, was initially scheduled for release in June, but may not now be ready before the end of the year. PowerQuest already sells PartitionMagic incorporating IBM Corp’s Boot Manager, but the company maintains the new product is meant as an easy to operate boot manager for ‘non-techies’ and is aimed at both business and home users. The company adds that EZ-Boot will have a more user- friendly graphical interface, cutting out the need for line commands used in similar Unix products, and will be ‘the only boot manager that allows you to use your mouse’. PowerQuest also says it will shortly be announcing further details of a new hard disk imaging product, as yet unnamed, aimed at the corporate market.
