Computergram always had its suspicions that Posix compliancy was so low-level that it didn’t amount to much and now that the US National Institute of Standards & Technology has accredited companies to do Posix testing some interesting early results are leaking out: it seems that vendors are doing a good job at getting their own Posix-compliant but different operating systems to the point where applications developed on one can run with the other with recompilation – VMS to Ultrix, MPE to HP/UX and so on; the rub is that Posix compliancy is not working across different vendor systems – well, there’s a surprise.
