POQET PC WITH WIRELESS MODEM SET FOR EARLY 1992

By CBR Staff Writer

Santa Clara, Californiabased Poqet Computer Corp has developed a radiocommunicating version of the Poqet PC handheld computer, and it says that the first version will use Motorola Inc’s RPM 400i radio modem for wireless wide area, packet data communications and electronic mess-aging. It will use the Ardis network in the US and hopes to use similar services in other countries. The radio modem version of the Poqet Communicating Computer is intended for real-time, two-way wireless data communications between field workers with the 2 lbs 3 oz micro and host computers. The standard configuration of the MSDOS micro also contains a 9,600 bps mo-dem for large file transfers via a standard or cellular phone. Poqet says it will begin shipping production models in the first quarter of1992. Internationally, the system will initially be available through Hutchison Mobile Data Ltd, which now has a Personal Communications Network licence in the UK and Hong Kong, and via Mobidata in Canada.
