The all-capitals telex message is definitely out these days, and wire services are trying various ways to use lower case letters to make their missives more palatable: AP-Dow Jones is more or less there with full upper and lower case, but Reuters now has a sort of halfway house where everything is lower case but letters that should be capped are enclosed in brackets, thus (ibm) – but the system breaks down occasionally, and we were a bit disconcerted to see a message from Reuters talking of a series of read only memory basic input/output systems, called pom bois.
