The cellular telephone consortium of Polish and foreign firms, Polkomtel SA, which launched services yesterday, expects to take a 40% plus market share in about a year, the company’s president said. Polkomtel is Poland’s third mobile phone operator, following analog Centertel SA and Groupe Speciale Mobile firm PTC Era GSM SA, which started operations last month. Polkomtel said the two Groupe Speciale Mobile firms should take around 40% of the market each, with Centertel taking the rest. Tele Danmark A/S and AirTouch Communications Inc each has 19.25% of Polkomtel which says it will invest a striking $1bn by the year 2000 in a bid to win at least 1 million Polish users.
