The Polish government on Tuesday gave the telecommunications minister a six-month deadline to prepare a long-delayed plan for gradual privatization of TPSA , Poland’s state phone company: the Minister is to present an outline privatization plan by November 30; the privatization would be gradual and spread over time, the minister said without giving further details; he said according to the ministry’s estimates TPSA’s turnover should soar within the next 15 years, reaching $16,617m in the 19952000 period, $26,400m in 20002005 and $44,240m in the following five years; he confirmed plans to bring competition to local phone markets by issuing licenses for private operators in public tenders; the first two such tenders were this week and 11 more are planned this year; liberalization of international telephone connections would come after the year 2000, he said.
