Push technology pioneer PointCast Inc has expanded its offering with 10 new push channels aimed at various vertical markets. There are only 27 PointCast channels at the moment so the addition of 36 new channels, grouped into 10 market sectors, which are known as Industry Insider Editions is a big step for the company. PointCast is partnering with various players in each market to provide the content, such as Electronic Data Systems Corp for the Automotive and Aerospace Insider channels, and KPMG Peat Marwick LLP for the Banking Insider. Within each channel, various content providers will provide information – for instance within the Healthcare Insider Channel, the American Medical Association and Reuters provide content. The existing channels can be viewed alongside the new ones. The 10 new channels include 36 channels within to make 63 in total for what the company now calls the PointCast Business network, in a bid to differentiate itself from the myriad of push companies that have appeared in its wake. It especially wants to be known as a content, rather than a software provider. The first two channels, Government Insider and Healthcare Insider are available now for download; banking, Consumer Markets, Legal, Real Estate, State & Local and Telecommunications Insiders will appear by the year-end. Aerospace and Automotive Insiders follow by the first quarter of next year.
