Win yourself a Newton! PCMCIA stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association and for People Can’t Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms, but it also spells trouble for those that try to remember it – or even spell it: the best anyone here has come up with is Piecey-Miecey, to which the response has to be Eh? but now Apple Computer Inc’s Personal Interactive Electronics – yes, that’s right, Apple PIE division, Kenneth Wirth is offering a Newton as the prize for the person that can come up with the snappiest name for the thing – it’s no good calling it a chip card slot because the card can embed a disk drive, modem, printerface and other devices as yet undreamed of as well as memory – you could try Adonis, for add-on interface slot, or Madonna for memory add-on-er, with variants such as Padonna for peripherals, Dadonna for disks, or simply cut it to Adonna, but the best we’ve come up with here is Hot Slot – no doubt that will turn out to be somebody’s jealously guarded trade mark – any other suggestions out there?
