PMC-Sierra, a US-based internet infrastructure semiconductor services provider, has launched symmetric 10Gbit/s IEEE 802.3av EPON, including optical line terminals and optical network units.

According to PMC-Sierra, it has developed complete systems for symmetric 10G IEEE 802.3av EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) optical line terminals (OLT) and optical network units (ONU).

The PAS8011 system for 10G OLTs and the PAS9011 system for 10G ONUs integrate all the functionality required from an OLT and ONU running at 10G rates, including transceivers, and leverage PMC-Sierra’s EPON capabilities and analog expertise.

PMC-Sierra’s 10G EPON services include backward-compatible Service Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation, which enables configurable high system performance in a multi-service environment for access, wireless backhaul and cable TV networks.

Raphael Sankar, vice president of marketing forĀ fiber to the home business unit at PMC-Sierra, said: PMC-Sierra’s 10G EPON solutions and the increased availability of optics supporting 10G rates have enabled carriers to begin trials. This performance will allow carriers to provide new services, such as the next level of HDTV broadcasting and advanced business offerings, while further reducing capital expenditures.
