PLESSEY MAKES HEADWAY WITH PAYPHONES IN AUSTRALIA, SINGAPORE

By CBR Staff Writer

Plessey Co Plc has made headway with its payphones in two Far East markets, Australia and Singapore, traditionally dominated by Japanese suppliers: it has a UKP2m-a-year pact from Telecom Australia for an estimated 2,000 payphones, starting in May; and UKP3.5m for 4,000 pre-pay card and credit card payphones and 500,000 payphone cards, as well as a cashless calling system at Changi international airport; the phones will be made by Plessey Australia.
