PLESSEY HEADS INTO DEALER BOARD MARKET

By CBR Staff Writer

Plessey Co Plc is heading into competition with the likes of Reuters, Control Data, V-Band and French company TIE in the financial market with a dealer board from Positron of Montreal, Canada. It estimates the market is worth UKP35m to UKP37m in the UK this year. Plessey has exclusive UK rights to distribute the product, which is designed to give City dealers split-second access to their communications network for quick telephone response on deals. Plessey is chivvying British Telecom to hurry up and grant the British Approvals Board – Telecommunications OK for what it will call the Plessey Positron + so that it can start selling it in June 1988. The product is based on a distributed Intel microprocessor architecture and is likely to cost UKP5,000 to UKP6,000 per position.
